A dream final! Argentina the world champion!
Argentina's third world championship has become a reality! Leo Messi and his team defeated France in the final match. The victory of the South American team was determined by penalty kicks. The match was refereed by Szymon Marciniak, who received very good reviews.
It was clear that the Argentinian team was well-prepared for the final clash. In the first half, they didn’t allow their rivals to do virtually anything. Suffice it to say that in the first 45 minutes, the French not only failed to core a single point, but also to shoot at all. Instead, the unleashed Argentinians had two goals in store. In the 23rd minute, Messi successfully executed an “eleven”. In the 36th minute, Angel Di Maria also scored with one of the most beautiful shots of the championship. The ball travelled as if along a string, with the Argentinians exchanging passes at a rapid pace. In the final phase, Alexis Mac Allister passed to Di Maria, who had no choice but to put the ball in the net from close range.
The first half ended with Argentina leading 2:0, but the referee for this encounter, Szymon Marciniak, extended it by eight minutes. The Pole quickly cooled the enthusiasm of both teams at the start of the match. He showed that he had the meeting under control. As the contest progressed, he only confirmed this.
In the second half, something happened that once again defied the logic of the course of the match. It seemed that the Argentinians had the title in their grasp, especially since France had no arguments for a long time. Meanwhile, 10 minutes before the end of the time, a foul in Argentina's penalty area turned everything upside down. Kylian Mbappe took advantage of the penalty. The same player completed the attack moments later in a great style. 2:2! Shock in the stands, disbelief among the Argentinians. France seized the moment, but despite eight additional minutes of play, no more goals were scored. Extra time was therefore needed to determine the final result.
Argentina took the lead thanks to Messi but his strike was countered by Mbappe in the 118th minute. The brilliant winger of the French national team again made no mistake when shooting from 11 metres. In doing so, he scored a hat trick – the first ever in a World Cup final. However, Lionel Scaloni's charges proved to be better in the penalty shootout. Argentinians are now World Champions 2022!
