Paweł Gil ends his referee career

"I decided to end my refereeing career", referee Paweł Gil told the Łączy Nas Piłka web portal. "This decision is related to my new responsibilities at UEFA in the VAR project. Thank you to our entire football community for working together for over 25 years. I hope for equally fruitful cooperation, but already in a new role," he added.

"I would like to thank Mr. Pawel for his many years of work as a referee," stated the president of the Polish Football Association, Zbigniew Boniek. "I hope he will be able to cope with the new challenge and will effectively develop the VAR project, which is so important for modern football," added President Boniek.

Paul Gil is 45 years old. He has been a football referee since 1995. In 2005, he made his debut in Ekstraklasa (within 16 years, he was the main referee in 339 matches). Four years later, he became an international referee (156 matches, including 70 as the main referee). He has served as a VAR educator at the Polish Referee Committee since 2017.
