The most important numbers concerning the new head coach

As a player, he enjoyed the title of champion three times. With the eagle on his chest, he raised his hands in a gesture of triumph after scoring a goal four times. He played hundreds of times in the Austrian Bundesliga and his football players' career ended in his twelfth club. We would like to present the key numbers concerning Jerzy Brzęczek as a player and coach.


1 - Jerzy Brzęczek won one medal with the White-and-Reds. It was the silver medal which they won during the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. In the final match against Spain, the player coming from Truskolasy assisted Ryszard Staniek in scoring the goal after which there was an equal number of goals.

2 - He was a player and a coach in two clubs. The first of them is Raków Częstochowa, where he was a player between 1983 and 1988 and then a coach between 2010 and 2014. And the second club was GKS Katowice, where he spent the spring round of the season 1994/1995, and to which he returned as a coach in 2015 and led the team from Bukowa street until 2017.

3 - During his football career, the central midfielder enjoyed the title of champion three times. He won the first one won playing in Poland, as a player of Lech Poznań and the other two as a player of Tirol Innsbruck.

4 - As a midfielder of the Polish national team, he scored four goals. The scored the first goal during the match against Brazil. Then he beat the Austrian goalkeeper and the other two goals he scored in the qualifiers for the UEFA Euro in 2000 during the match against Luxembourg and England.

5 - Before taking the position of head coach of the Polish national team, Jerzy Brzęczek worked as a coaching staff member of five clubs. The first one was Polonia Bytom, where he was a playing assistant of coach just before he ended his career as a player. Then, as the head coach of Raków Czestochowa, Lechia Gdańsk, GKS Katowice and Wisła Płock.

10 - Apart from Polish Ekstraklasa, Jerzy Brzęczek also played in Austria and Israel. In Austria,  he played for more than 10 seasons as a player of four clubs (Tirol Innsbruck, Linzer ASK, Sturm Graz and FC Karnten). Surely, he would have played many more matches in Austrian Bundesliga if he hadn't moved to Haifa where he played in the local club Maccabi FC.

12 – Olimpia Truskolasy, Raków Częstochowa, Olimpia Poznań, Lech Poznań, Górnik Zabrze, GKS Katowice, FC Tirol Innsbruck, Linzer AK, Maccabi Hajfa, Sturm Graz, FC Karnten, Polonia Bytom. In total, Jerzy Brzęczek played in 12 clubs during his career of a football player.

30 - The fans of Innsbruck, where he played for a total of over seven seasons with two breaks, could enjoy his goals most often. During his stay, he scored 30 goals for the local club of Tirol Innsbruck in all official matches.*

42 - The counter of Jerzy Brzęczek's performances in the national team stopped at the number of 42. He made his debut in the match against Austria on 19 May 1992, and his adventure with the White-and-Reds ended on 9 June 1999 with the last match against Luxembourg.

262 - As we have already mentioned, Jerzy Brzęczek represented a number of clubs during his career of the football player. However, in no other club he stayed as long as in Tirol. With that team he won the championship of Austria twice and met Stanisław Czerczesow and Joachim Loew. He also played the larges number of matches with the team of FC Tirol Innsbruck. He scored 30 goals and assisted 14 times.*

306 - In total, he played in 306 matches in four clubs of the Austrian Bundesliga.*
