Maciej Sawicki on the Nations League

We have talked to PZPN's Secretary General Maciej Sawicki, who is at the UEFA Congress in Astana, moments after accepting the National League project.

"Elevating the significance of the national teams' matches to the highest level is one of the most important objectives established by UEFA since introducing the Champions League in 1992. The decision taken here during the UEFA Congress is another step in this direction. The biggest change which will come into force since Autumn 2018 is introducing new type of competitions, UEFA Nations League, instead of the majority of friendly matches played by the federations in accordance with FIFA's international match calendar. Thanks to the system of promotion and relegation between particular divisions as well as the chance to qualify to UEFA European Championship or the World Cup gaining so-called "wild cards" in the new competitions, the UEFA's Nations League will contribute to the emergence of matches bearing higher sports significance and, as a consequence, generate bigger interest among the fans, TV broadcasters and sponsors around the world; which will translate into higher and more stable income for each of 54 federations comprising UEFA," said Maciej Sawiski, the Secretary General of PZPN.
